[pptp-server] pppd segfaulting with MPPE patches

I'm having some trouble setting pptpd up with the pppd patches for
MPPE encryption. With a stock pppd (as a Debian package), it works
just fine (with encryption turned off). If I use the same
configuration with a pppd patched for MPPE (having the kernel module
loaded), pppd gets a signal 11 (segmentation violation) *with the same
configuration* as before (i.e., encryption turned off)! Very
confusing. If I could get pppd to dump a core, I think I could debug
this some further, but maybe this is a known error?

I'm using Debian (potato), kernel 2.2.16 and pppd 2.3.11.
