The MPPE encryption already makes datagrams larger. And yes, that can be a 
problem.

Check again, you'll see that the compression protocol is patented. That's
at least an additional reason that it hasn't been implemented in
PoPToP/pppd, if not the main reason.

[And sure they call it a Microsoft protocol, even though they didn't 
invent it.]
