[pptp-server] select() error

I have been battling this for some time.

I have tried a different versions of pptpd and pppd. The server is
redhat6.0 with 2.2.10 kernel. when I try to connect I get an error log
entry:

Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/3
sent [LCP ConfReg id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <auth chap MD5> <magic
0x1a75541d> <pcomp> <accomp>]
CTRL: Error with select(), quitting
CTRL: Client <ip-address> control connection finished.

The windows98 (second addition) client reports that MS vpn did not
respond correctly


anyone have a clue as to what I am doing wrong???
