[pptp-server] Win98 and PPTP

Hi all

I know have a working VPN connection, no thanks to the howto which is very
out of date.  I can get the VPN connection working with Win98se while the
laptop is connected to the network via a LAN (using the 'world visible' IP
of our firewall).  When I remove the LAN cable, reboot and login in to the
laptop, dial the ISP then fire up VPN, it returns error 5, an authenication
error.  

Via LAN the /var/log/messages file looks like like:

Has anyone else come across this before?
