[pptp-server] Win98 and PPTP

OK, I have removed, than reinstalled PPTP (VPN) in Win98. Now I am getting
error 645: "The MS dial-up adaptre is in use or is not responding properly",
but I am still getting entries in the logs (both /var/log/messages and
/var/log/pptp.log)

What now?!?!?!

I ran into this problem myself. It's a client one, not PoPToP/PPP...

It's a problem with the VPN installation on the LAPTOP.

If you only have a LAN connection, you end up with one VPN entry in Windows.

If you have both a LAN card and Modem, you should have three entries in
Network...

1) Dialup Adapter
2) Dialup Adapter #2 (VPN Support)
3) Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter.

etc.

If you are getting in ok, via the lan, but not dialup...

Make sure you have the above entries present.

Worst case, delete all networking entries, remove C:\Windows\protocol.*,
re-install the adapter drivers, and finally re-install VPN (add/remove
MS-WINDOWS)... rebooting as you go.

Have fun dealing with the domains! Even the Connection Manager does not cure
the domain membership problems...

|Hi all
|
|I know have a working VPN connection, no thanks to the howto which is very
|out of date. I can get the VPN connection working with Win98se while the
|laptop is connected to the network via a LAN (using the 'world visible' IP
|of our firewall). When I remove the LAN cable, reboot and login in to the
|laptop, dial the ISP then fire up VPN, it returns error 5, an authenication
|error.
|
|Via LAN the /var/log/messages file looks like like:
