[pptp-server] can ping but not do much more

Have you checked your firewall rules to make sure that denied packets are
logged, and checked to make sure there are no firewall denies in
/var/log/*?

One thing you can do for addt'l logging is add the following line to
/etc/syslog.conf:

*.*				/var/log/syslog

.. and restart syslogd, and then look at the /var/log/syslog file.
