[pptp-server] weird encryption problem

Hi

When I connect to a linux machine (2.2.17) running pptpd, without
encryption, it connects fine, and allows me access to the network. As soon
as I enable encryption, it connects fine, however wont allow me to ping
anything. here is the logs from syslog:

it appears to connect fine, but will not ping anything, any ideas or
suggestions greatly appreciated.
