to prevent you from  a possible opening through the pptp client you better
leave the default gateway checked. 
Otherwise it is possible that somebody uses your PC as a gateway to get from
the the internet throug your PC and the tunnel to the protected network

in your windows dialup entry, go to tcpip settings and
uncheck Use default gw on remote network

this will not add the default route ( 0.0.0.0 )
so you will continue access the internet + VPN
