If the patch is applied you should get the same output:
[from the top dir of your kernel source]

$ grep PPP_MAGIC include/linux/if_ppp.h
#define PPP_MAGIC 0x5002
$ grep PPP_VERSION include/linux/if_ppp.h
#define PPP_VERSION "2.3.11"
$
