Maybe you could try;
username hostname password ip
E.G.
jcoco wkstn-1 secret xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
That SHOULD work....

Did you leave out the remote IPs in the /etc/pptpd.conf and place a * in
place of the IP in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets eg.
georgev * password *
this will give the server no choice but allow the remote machine to
assign
itself it's own IP.. Maybe even add ipcp-accept-remote in the
/etc/ppp/options.pptpd file..
should work coz I did get it working..

I tried having the remote end assign the IP, but the poptop server will
either give out a dynamic IP, or make one up..
