It's not listed in /lib/modules/2.4.5/modules.dep .I would like to know if
anybody has it there in their modules.dep file.

Also if anybody is running 2.4.5 kernel.. I'd like to know..

Try adding:

alias ppp-compress-18 ppp_mppe

to /etc/modules.conf
