[pptp-server] More or less weird error-message... "Unknown protocol..."

Two ideas:

1) Do you have the line mppe-stateless in your ppp options file?

2) According to the patch above, you might be missing the rc4 files.  It is 
better to get the patch that already includes those files.  That might be 
source of your compile problems.
