If you have an NT server running your authentication, you can use
pam_smb, maybe. If you are using samba as an nt domain controller, a
better solution is to use the smbpasswd patch.
Go to http://linus.yi.org and click on the PPP tab at the top...

The authentication is done on the pppd rather than pptpd.
I'm not sure about other distribution, Redhat has default ppp
authentication over PAM.
You may get the pam_smb module from
http://www.csn.ul.ie/~airlied/pam_smb/
