It doesn't make much sense to connect to a server on the same LAN. There
is already a direct route on the LAN to that server. If you configure the
pptpd server the way it is usually configured (to use its LAN address as
the local address for the PPTP connection), then you will have two routes
to that IP address in your client. All rather confusing for the client.

If you are going to test this way, make sure that the server uses a
different network for its addresses. Then when you start to access from
outside your LAN, you probably want to change the addresses again - the
PPTP VPN makes most sense if you use the same network addresses, and
configure proxyarp on the server.
