[pptp-server] Kernel Patch problem

I am trying to patch a 2.4.2 kernel. I have tried
applying the patch to the source tree from kernel.org
and off the redhat cd. 
I keep getting the following error.
# zcat ../linux-2.4.4-openssl-0.9.6a-mppe.patch.gz |
patch 
 -p1
patching file README.MPPE
patching file include/linux/ppp-comp.h
can't find file to patch at input line 112
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?

Could someone tell me what I am doinf wrong.
