[pptp-server] PPTPD and kernel 2.4.16

Hello

I'm planning to install redhat 7.2 and upgrade the kernel to 2.4.16 in order
to make my Linux firewall a vpn server. I've noticed on the
http://mirror.binarix.com/ppp-mppe/ the following files exist

ppp-2.4.1-openssl-0.9.6-mppe-patch.gz
linux-2.4.16-openssl-0.9.6b-mppe.patch.gz

A couple of questions:

1.)  Am I moving in the right direction?

2.)  Does pptpd support kernel version 2.4.16??

3.)  Is the 2.4.16 kernel considered to be safe??

4.)  Where is the current website that discusses these issues (poptop
site)??
