[pptp-server] PPTP/SAMBA problem

You should be able to map SMB shares to your linux box no differently than
mapping shares to NT servers from the remote PPTP client. I have no problems
doing so at this end. I run both NT servers and linux servers on my LAN and
connect into a PopTop based PPTP server.

As far as opening up additional ports... that should not be necessary. At
least on the external side of your firewall. In essence your PPTP server is
acting as a router. If properly configured, it should be forwarding
(routing) encapsulated packets of data "as is" from eth0 to ppp0 for
example. The only port/protos that are needed to create a PPTP based VPN are
protocol 47 and port 1723.

You have described your problem quite well, but maybe if you included more
info on how samba/poptop is configured on your LAN we might be able to help
you more. i.e. pptpd.conf, smb.conf, ppp/options, are you running a WINS
server, the error message you get from the remote end when you try to attach
a share to the linux box, etc...
