[pptp-server] pptp client and (SAMBA or NFS) again

Hi,
I'd like to mount some filesystems that live on the other side of a pptp
connection. Pptp seems pretty happy, it can telnet to internal nodes of
the remote net. Unfortunately, both NFS and SMBMOUNT don't seem to work
correctly through the tunnel.
The nfs problem varies from server to server. On one server the mount
hangs. On the other mount succeeds, but "ls" of the directory hangs, and
"nfs server not responding, still trying" gets put in the syslog. Also,
after that some warnings appear periodically like
"warn[decaps_gre:pptp_gre.c:239]: discarding out-of-order".
The smbmount is probably related to the problems I have with smbclient.
On a machine on the same LAN as the samba server, one can do
"smbclient //NT/DEVO4 -I 192.168.1.7 -U pisati", and then type "ls" at the
prompt to see the contents of that directory. Over the pptp connection
the same sequence generates:
added interface ip=192.168.88.7 bcast=255.255.255.255 nmask=0.0.0.0
Password:
Domain=[NT] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.0.6]
smb: \> ls
code 0 listing \*
Error in dskattr: code 0
smb: \>
Any ideas?
PS Here is a map of the network. The only "real" connection to the
internet is the cable modem.
