| I know linux can be setup to run a VPN. And from the how-to i have read
|it appears to be fairly simple. I have been told though that you can not
|connect to a VPN that is setup in Linux with a Windows machine. Actualy i
|was told you could do it but there is not a form of encryption to
|hadle both
|OS's.
|

Huh?

The ppp-2.3.11-openssl-0.9.5-mppe.patch permits windows 40 and 128 bit
authentication nicely.

That is not the problem at all with your scenario.

The problem is with the various domains.

For some reason Winblows VPN connection clients cannot browse foreign
domains.

If the Winblows VPN client is initially set up to be a member of the remote
domain, it can browse just fine... however if the remote domain is different
it does not work.

However all the remote shares are available! You just can't "see" them...
(yes even with a remote WINS client...)...

This is strange, since when winblows connects to an NT VPN it has no such
problem... even if the VPN is behind a Linux firewall.

|Summary-
| So i guess what im looking to figure out is how do I setup a
|LINUX based
|server as my VPN server, and all the clients are going to be Windows based.
|My remote offices will probably have a Linux Server running the
|VPN (We have
|several Pentium 90's that would do the job fairly easily) and they will
|forward the Windows based traffic out the VPN connections.
|
|Anyone have any ideas??? Can this be done, and can it be done securely?
|

With the patch security is not an issue...

As I've pointed out, the problem is with multiple domains and domain
membership.
